Today is a pretty hilarious combo of days, if I do say so myself. It's right up there with the "Sock" days from May. No doubt many of you will crack some jokes at today's coincidental (?) celebration combination. I count myself in that number of people as well.
Today's first holiday is Housewives' Day! A holiday created to acknowledge and celebrate all the hard work that a wife does to make a house into a home. What better way to acknowledge all that work by taking it on yourself to do it instead? Although, you might do it wrong and she'll just have to fix it later, I'm sure the gesture will be appreciated. I mean it seems pretty easy when you do it, but you don't realize that they also do it every day! And the kid isn't as easy to deal with as you'd think when you're with them all day! And boy oh boy does hilarity ensue when you forget your daughter at ballet practice. At least that's what sitcoms paint this picture to be like. (Author's note: I'm not married)
Today is also Sandwich Day! Sandwiches are the best thing since sliced bread. In fact, without sliced bread, there wouldn't be such a thing. Luckily for humans, we have someone to thank: John Montagu, the Fourth Earl of Sandwich. While the concept belongs to him, the inventor was his servant, who was told to put meat between bread and deliver it to him while he was gambling. That way, he had one hand to hold his meal in, and one hand to hold his hand in. He also did other things in his time as the Earl, but... I mean you really can't beat coming up with the idea for sandwich.

Every Day of Elementary
Today is National Bologna Day! Not 'baloney'. 'Bologna'. There IS a difference. One is meat, and one is just a bunch of talk. Today is about the meat one! You don't even WANT to know how many times I ate bologna in my life. It was pretty much a staple of my dietary menu up until the time when I was tall enough to reach all the shelves in the pantry, and smart enough to make my own healthy meal. Well... at least smart enough to not be seen when I made unhealthy meals.
Bologna is one of the most widely-used sandwich meats, believe it or not. But why not? It's made of beef, pork, and etcetera! Not to mention how easy it is to make a sandwich out of. Bread+bologna+mustard+bread = Done! So go and enjoy yourself some bologna today!

Eat it Fast, it Doesn't Last
Today is National Ice Cream Sandwich Day! Today combines two of my favorite things to eat: Ice Cream and Sandwiches. I love ice cream sandwiches because thats exactly what it is. What you see is what you get. It's a simple summer time treat and it's not going to throw you off with any crazy surprises like a fruit center. The one problem with it is that it is by far the fastest melting kind of frozen good you could eat. Due to the fact that you eat it in the heat of the summer and you are holding it with your hands that have been warmed by the sun, there is no buffer zone for it to keep it's cool. But, that doesn't really matter all that much because you usually eat it so fast that only a few drops of ice cream hit the sidewalk and immediately evaporate. Plus, you are left with parts of the bread (which is chocolate by the way) coating your fingers and you lick that off. Which is the final step of eating an ice cream sandwich. If you wash your hands you did it wrong and must start again. My favorite cream sandwich right now is the one made by M&M's. Its ice cream in between two sugar cookies filled with M&M's! Here look!

Just Harvested
Today is Fresh Veggies Day! Like I have mentioned yesterday, I now work at a bakery. At this bakery, we also make sandwiches, salads, and panini sandwiches. One of the most important parts of the recipe is that the veggies be as fresh as possible for maximum delicious savory goodness. We cut the tomatoes, onions, and all other things fresh at least thrice a day. Veggies are, as anybody can tell you, a very important part of a diet. They can only do their best when they are fresh, though. So get them while their hot! Or... cold. It depends on what you order.

Greeking Out
Today is The End Of The Middle Ages Day! Celebrating the day that is considered to be the end of the middle ages by most scholars (May 29th, 1453), today is meant to mark the anniversary of the fall of the Ottoman Empire. There are quite a fews ways to celebrate it. You could go to a renaissance festival, which would have a plethora of ways to have old timey fun. You could celebrate the day by learning more about the time period of the middle ages up to and slightly past its ending. However, a stroke of luck happened today for me. Some of my friends were going to eat at a greek restaurant, and the end of the middle ages is when greek scholars migrated around the known world spreading their knowledge. It is unknown to me if my friends knew that they were celebrating the holiday, and I should have probably brought it up, as I have discussed the holidays with some of them before. It isn't easy to talk when you are eating a delicious gyro sandwich, though. I also tried fried calamari for the first time. How does every blog post turn into something about food? I'm sorry... No I'm not, actually. Food is awesome. Especially greek food.

Nuttin' Bedda'
Today is National Hoagie Day! A 'hoagie' is a term for a large sandwich (usually a sub from what i've seen) that is usually used in Philly. That is what google tells me about the term, anyway. I already knew there were a lot of names for sub sandwiches like grinders, hoagies, and i've even heard train-wreck once? But that guy was weird. However, since today is "Hoagie" day and not "Sub" Day (Which we already had btw), I think I'll go purchase and subsequently eat a Philly Cheesesteak.

Peanut Butter Jelly Time
Today is Peanut Butter and Jelly Day!
I have been waiting for today for at least a week. Peanut Butter and Jelly is one of those combinations that completely changes your life forever. If you have not eaten a PB&J sandwich, I strongly urge you to make one today and savor it's flavor. There is just one rule for your first PB&J that you have to follow at all costs: Keep it simple!
White bread, Smooth Peanut Butter, and Grape Jelly are the ingredients you will use.
White bread: It is a simple yet time-tested bread and will not interfere with the flavours of the PB&J while still providing a very soft encasement for them
Smooth Peanut Butter: Doesn't really matter what brand, although I usually use Jiffy. You DO want smooth, though because it's a risk. For your first PB&J we want safety. Go smooth for a no-crunch, all-flavour sandwich.
Grape Jelly: This is where things get specific. You will need Welch's Grape Jelly. They are the masters of grape, so it would simply be foolish to choose another. Why Grape? It's the starter flavour. It is your base camp on the PB&J mountain. The foundation to your PB&J pyramid. Also the cement. After your first PB&J, you can take risks and venture out into strawberry or apple or what-have-you, but you will want to eat grape first so that you know you can always go back to it. And you WILL come back to it. Why Welch's? I've already told you: They know grapes better than any other jelly. I've tried other brands and it just never is as good as Welch's is. In fact I'm going to look up Welch's and email them a "Thank you for being so awesome" note.

Holy Cow! Welch's has a twitter and they are also celebrating PB&J Day! That makes them 10 times more deserving to be the J to your PB!
