Stuck in the Middle

Today is Middle Child's Day! Since I am a middle child, I'm pretty much a pro on them. Middle child's are always by far the most appreciated by the public, because we are the underdog story. We aren't quite as well trained as the older child, and never got quite the recognition that was given to the younger child. I would go in to full detail on my life as a middle child, but I really don't want to ignore any of this awesome trip. So instead, I will someday regale you with tales from my past. Until then, if you are a middle child, take some extra time out of your day to let yourself know how great you are. I say extra time because we all know we already spend a lot of time doing that on a regular basis.

Nut bad at all.

Today is National Pecan Pie Day! If my metabolism weren't comparable to a tornado made of barbed wire, all of these food holidays would really be doing a number on my system. On another, more pertinent note, I've never had pecan pie before, so today is pretty much the perfect day for me to try some. I warned the chefs at my workplace that today was National Pecan Pie Day about 4 days ago, and I've been told they have made some pecan pies for the occasion. This is, just in case you were wondering, the first time that a business has decided to take part in my holiday celebrations with me (Aside from Firehouse Subs, who tweeted that they were going to celebrate submarine day after I tweeted them about it). I'm not counting Welch's because they previously knew about PB&J day, so I was celebrating with them more than they were with me. All that aside, I'm gonna see if I can't go score myself a slice of Pecan Pie. In fact... I'm not going to push "Publish Post" on this until I have a picture of that slice.

ONE HOUR LATER

They convinced me to get a chocolate chip brownie bite, too. I gotta say that red velvet cake balls still win it out over the rest of our stick-based treats, though.

The pecan pie was pretty good. I'm not a huge fan of nuts in desserts, though, so as a personal preference I probably wouldn't eat it if given the choice between it and apple pie or pumpkin pie. But it's flavour is pretty decent. Not bad for a first try pie, that's for sure. I give it a rating of: Nut too bad. As in: Dang this tastes good, but it has nuts... too bad.

Overlooking the Obvious

Today is Red Rose Day! This one actually took some work to find, as my original holiday list was almost lost, and seemed like it had been dated wrong due to some technological thing that I am not meant to understand. However, I have fixed everything and you can stop crying.

Roses are one of, if not the, most desired flowers across the world. Why? Because according to public opinion they are pretty. Some might even argue that they are the prettiest. I don't know about that, but I do agree with them definitely having a special kind of beauty to them.

Roses, especially red roses, have a tendency to be the flower always, always, always used for romantic scenes of any sort in any fictional or non-fictional expressive medium. This can make the rose seem like a common flower with no real special meaning or aspect. It's been seen by you so much you almost forget that it is indeed very pretty. Well, you don't really forget. You know, but you know it so well that you almost don't even think about it. You might say "Well, a lily is the prettiest flower". To which I respond "What about a red rose?". You then say "Oh. Well, that hardly counts because of course it would win."

That's the best illustration I can come up with when I'm this hungry. I'm trying to say that it is such a powerful beauty that is so very exposed to us that it almost becomes commonplace. Of course it's beautiful. We can just overlook it sometimes because it's so apparent.

I hear explaining illustrations like that ruins the illustration itself, but this is my blog and I can do what I want. a;jfhpwhrkgivwutehbeothf

Blog of Nonsense [Un-lost Post]

This post was originally for the 12th, but Blogger had some problems and lost it. I explained this on the post for May 13th. Just today, I found the draft had been placed back in my post list, so here is the original.

Today is Limerick Day! Edward Lear, the writer who made limericks a cool thing to write, was born today in 1812. Today celebrates his contributions to writing, namely his book Book of Nonsense, since that was the title that popularized the limerick. A limerick is a five-line poem with a rhyming scheme of AABBA. That means that the first, second, and fifth lines rhyme with each other, while the third and fourth rhyme with themselves. I wrote a limerick back in my high school days that I am still quite proud of.

"I once was the world's greatest poet,

Though many of you didn't know it.

But I've hit my head

On the edge of my bed,

And now I can no longer rhyme."

Classic me. So spend today coming up with your own limerick, or find some good limericks to read. If you want to really celebrate hardcore, try only speaking in limericks.

Leprechauns Wrecked My Blog

Today is Leprechaun Day! Most people throw leprechauns into their St. Patrick's Day celebration in March, but these crazy little guys deserve their own day. There is a plethora of different kinds of leprechauns from kind and child-loving to cruel and mass-murdering. You can celebrate today by hanging out with any quirky, short, red-headed people you know, OR you can spend the day in search of gold. Go buy a small pot and put a bunch of dollar coins in it! (Dollar coins are about as close as you can get to real gold coins on short notice).

Also, yesterday was Limerick Day, but leprechauns blogger seemed to invade the internet have technical difficulties and has absconded with my creative writings deleted my post about it. I would re-write it all if I remembered what I had written, but just know that it was and will be a day to write/read limericks. A limerick has a rhyme scheme of AABBA, which means lines 1,2, and 5 should rhyme while 3 and 4 have a separate rhyme. Here's my favorite limerick I've ever written:

"I once was the world's greatest poet,
Though many of you didn't know it.
But I hit my head
On the edge of my bed,
And now I can no longer rhyme." - Kyle

Things are Looking Up

Today is Look Up At The Sky Day! Today is a day to look up at the sky at least once to see all of the things that could happen up there. Find some clouds that look like objects or animals or see if you can take a blurry video of a frisbee and freak out the people at Area 51. If you live in a place similar to where I live, chances are that you will more than likely only see the sun. If that's the case, try not to look up the sky for too long, as you may or may not go blind. In fact, I think all of us may want to limit the time we look up at the sky today, as people may start to think that you are very crazy. It might be fun to look up just to see how many other people look up with you in an attempt to see what you're looking at, though.

Vertigo

Today is Alfred Hitchcock Day! I have absolutely no idea why the holiday committee chose today, because I can't find anything about him that happened today. However, that is not very important, as a lot of other holidays have been much, much more obscure.

Alfred Hitchcock, as I hope you all know, was and is known as a aster of psychological suspense. His movies may not have been the kind that you openly screamed at, but they definitely affected how much sleep you got that night. He is also well known for appearing in his own films in one way or another through small cameos. He was able to make the audience feel like part of the movie with camera work that was meant to look like it was the view of an actual person through techniques like view-bobbing or quick-panning.

Today is a day to remember all the classic thrillers he created. The easiest and most convenient way would to be to go down to your local video rental store and rent one or two of his movies and watch them. If his work is just a little too "scary" or "creepy" for you, you might consider renting a comedic tribute to Hitchcock called "High Anxiety". In fact, Hitchcock himself liked it enough to send the producer a bottle of wine. Or so wikipedia says.

Gerber Baby

I just realized I hadn't put up the holiday for Saturday, February 12! It was Plum Pudding Day! In case you are wondering, I have no idea what it's made of, but I found some at an asian restaurant (only place I could find that sold it) and I think it was ... well let's just say it must be an acquired taste. I much prefer the days when my younger brother was a baby and he hated the plum flavoured baby food. Because I'll give you one wild guess which young boy in the house loved it. That's right. This guy. Right here.

Again sorry for the late update, and I will try my best to make sure it doesn't happen again. I was out all day today watching plays and being social (Weird right?). I do greatly appreciate those of you who read this, and I am sorry for being inconsistent.

Another Ladies' Day

Come now, was Man Watcher's Day on the 8th not enough for you? Only four days later, you need another holiday for the same thing? Or is it the same thing? I suppose I'll never figure women out. Regardless, the holiday for January 12th is the Feast of Fabulous Wild Men Day. Now, I again put some research into this holiday, and it really is yet another day for women to go out and look at men, but with a few minor yet important changes. Instead of simply man watching, today is your day to find the "hunkiest" of them all and ogle and whistle to your hearts content. It' a lot like man watching, I assume, but this time you let them KNOW that you are watching and that you are watching THEM. So, have fun ladies. I'll probably just go watch Disney's Tarzan or something.
