Today is National Nut Day! Today is a day to simply enjoy, consume, and appreciate nuts. Not necessarily in that order. There are a lot of nuts out there for you to try, from chestnuts to red bopple nuts. Although bopple nuts aren't usually eaten... they CAN be. They're related to the macadamia for what that's worth. It's usually just an ornament, though. Whatever you do, don't you even THINK about letting peanuts in on this holiday. They're legumes. They just pretend to be nuts. ... posers.

Overlooking the Obvious
Today is Red Rose Day! This one actually took some work to find, as my original holiday list was almost lost, and seemed like it had been dated wrong due to some technological thing that I am not meant to understand. However, I have fixed everything and you can stop crying.
Roses are one of, if not the, most desired flowers across the world. Why? Because according to public opinion they are pretty. Some might even argue that they are the prettiest. I don't know about that, but I do agree with them definitely having a special kind of beauty to them.
Roses, especially red roses, have a tendency to be the flower always, always, always used for romantic scenes of any sort in any fictional or non-fictional expressive medium. This can make the rose seem like a common flower with no real special meaning or aspect. It's been seen by you so much you almost forget that it is indeed very pretty. Well, you don't really forget. You know, but you know it so well that you almost don't even think about it. You might say "Well, a lily is the prettiest flower". To which I respond "What about a red rose?". You then say "Oh. Well, that hardly counts because of course it would win."
That's the best illustration I can come up with when I'm this hungry. I'm trying to say that it is such a powerful beauty that is so very exposed to us that it almost becomes commonplace. Of course it's beautiful. We can just overlook it sometimes because it's so apparent.
I hear explaining illustrations like that ruins the illustration itself, but this is my blog and I can do what I want. a;jfhpwhrkgivwutehbeothf

Thank You
Today is Supreme Sacrifice Day. This is quite possibly the most serious holiday yet, as it is meant to raise awareness of the people who have given themselves up for the sake of another. It can be a day to remember those who have given quite literally everything they had in order to help others, or a day to celebrate those who risk doing so on an almost daily basis. I know that I am infinitely thankful for Jesus laying down his life in order to save everyone in the world from a horrible fate. I'm thankful for soldiers both past and present who have fought to preserve the nation that I live in. I'm also thankful for the force of men and women that I refer to as the Red, White, and Blue (Firefighters, Doctors, and Police Officers). I can't imagine that I originally thought that the colours of their uniform correlated so well with the meanings of the colours of the flag. In fact, it fits to well to have not been planned out by someone.
Firefighters work uniforms may be more of a yellow and orange, but let's face it: they are known for the colour red. Red on the flag is said to represent valor and hardiness. Valor is defined by great courage in the face of danger, and Hardiness means having the capability of enduring difficult conditions. Those two words fit my mind's eye's view of firefighters perfectly. Those two traits would be absolutely necessary when going into a burning building.
Doctors, once again, wear scrubs or something close to them, but they are known for the long white coat. White on the flag means 'purity' or 'innocence'. This fits them as well, as the last thing I think of when I think of a doctor is 'dirty'. Even the places they work always look so clean. Not to mention that their entire job is to help others keep their bodies pure. You may be saying "But what do doctors sacrifice?" Well, they sacrifice a LOT of time and money on constantly learning the new medical techniques, so they can become very easily stressed and may miss very important social occasions in order to make sure they are always prepared to help the people who need them. Not to mention all the disgusting things they must have to see in a lifetime.
Police are blue through and through. Their uniforms, their cars, even some of their buildings. The flag's blue stands for vigilance, perseverance, and justice. Those words are so definitive of cops, I guarantee you that you can't watch a cop movie without hearing one of them said by the chief. Policemen and policewomen are always on task and ready to help preserve the peace. Even when they are off duty, they are on duty. I've made friends with a few officers of the law (literally not sarcastically), and in all my experiences with them, they have proven to be very fair purveyors of the law.
So thank you to anyone and everyone who has ever sacrifice anything for the sake of another. You are awesome and deserve to be recognized far more often than you are.

Today Sucks
WAIT! Before you get offended by the title and leave, it's only a pun! See, today is Create-a-Vacuum Day. Get it? So don't leave, guys. ... Thank you.
Create-a-Vacuum Day is fairly simple aside from the hyphens which really throw me off. Wouldn't it mean the same thing without them? That's off-topic, though. Today, you create a vacuum. Now, I'm fairly sure that it doesn't mean you have to go out, buy parts, and tinker around until you have your own version of the dyson vacuums. Instead, I think this is more of a scientific vacuum creation day, which is much cheaper and easier. For those of you that skipped childhood and went straight onto your... oh, we'll say late 30's, creating a vacuum is as easy as owning any kind of cup. That's because all you NEED is a cup. That's right!
Now, take that cup and put in on your mouth. No, ON it not up to it. No, not the side of the cup. No, not the bottom. No... okay start over. Take the cup and surround your lips with the lip of the cup by putting the top part of the cup around your mouth. The lip should be right under your nose, barely touching both cheeks, and on your chin now. To make sure you have it right, speak into the cup and it should sound a little echoey, and if you have it tight enough, you'll not be able to speak due to filling the cup with too much air. Good, but STOP TALKING! Filling the cup with air is exactly what we are working against here. Alright final step: Breath in, sucking all the air out of the cup. It may take several breaths, but you should reach a point where the cup will stay on your face without you even holding it! Now you turn to the person nearest you, tap them on the shoulder, and when they look at you, point at your mouth and grunt happily. They will either try to imitate you, or slap the cup off of your face. Either way, you are going to have a circle on your face for a while. This is how other holiday enthusiasts will recognize you, so wear it proudly! Beginners should start with disposable cups, and eventually you'll be able to work your way up to plastic or even glass for the risk takers.
