Today is Be Late For Something Day! Today is pretty self explanatory, although I think I should warn you about things that you should definitely not be late for today.
- Your job
- Your child's birth
- Your wedding
- Your court hearing
- Your flight
Anything else is really fair game I suppose. My one rule for myself today is "As long as it doesn't cost me more than 15ish dollars". I should also mention that by 'late' I don't mean a few minutes late to the business meeting and you bring everyone breakfast. Everybody will instantly forgive you. No, you have to be significantly late, but DON'T miss whatever you are supposed to be late to. If you do that, you'll be never. Always better late than never.

Friendly Reminder of Friendliness
Today is Be An Angel Day! Today is a day to take some time out of your oh-so-busy schedule and try your hardest to be an angel. Before you mad scientists get excited, I'm not talking about grafting wings onto your back and bolting a yellow neon loop above your head. No, today is much simpler than that. It's a day to do something good to another human. Or animal I suppose. Angels like animals, too. I'd tell you what I did for today, but telling about my own deeds seems non-angelic. Even saying I'm not telling you because I want to be angelic seems like it's not very angelic. ... Well, just do something nice for/to/at someone today. Today's another day that should be a year-round, 24/7 kind of deal. Like when your parents used to remind you to say 'thank you', you shouldn't have to be reminded anymore. We shouldn't have to be told to be nice to others. But we were, so let's go on ahead and do it.

Becoming Oscar.
Today is Be Nasty Day. Today is a day to be... well... nasty. The word 'nasty' can mean many different things, though. the first thing I thought was to be mean to everyone, and I'm sure that's what most of you thought, too. However, the first definition of 'nasty' in my handy dandy macbook dictionary is "Highly unpleasant, especially to the senses; physically nauseating". Now, I don't know about you, but there are very few people I have seen in my life that have physically nauseated me. I've met people that I thought were disgusting in a few ways, sure, but to actually be at the point of debating whether or not I could hold in an urge to throw up while in their presence? That's a rarity.
Of course, the dictionary also defines it in the way we would think normally. "Behaving in an unpleasant or spiteful way". Ah, there we go. We have all been around someone being this kind of nasty, and we have all been this kind of nasty. This kind of nasty is easier to pull off as well, because there are many different actions that various people will view as nasty.
Not I recommend going all-out in your celebration of this Holiday, but if one were to choose to do so, I would recommend following the second definition. It's not only easier, it's most likely healthier in the short-run. If this holiday were year-long, I'd recommend the second. I've contractually obligated myself to celebrate each holiday "To the best that my current circumstances allow", however. So I will be doing my best to be nasty all day. Luckily, I have the internet, which makes it just oh-so-much easier to be nasty towards others. As for being disgusting... uh... I just... won't... shower? ... It's just a day after all.

P.S. I do not approve of internet bullying.

Happy girls sing.
Today is I Want You To Be Happy Day! It is a day to wish happiness on your friends without looking for ways in which it might somehow benefit you in return. Make today all about others, and less about you. In fact, do a little more thank simply telling them you want them to be happy, and actually do something that will make them happy. It doesn't have to take a grand, planned effort. Just something small yet meaningful to brighten their day.
Today is also Peach Blossom Day! It is a day for girls to celebrate the fact that they are girls. I had no idea what this had to do with peach blossoms, so I looked it up. Peach blossoms were used in chinese festivals to symbolize happy marriage. They also insinuated gentility, composure, and tranquility, which are all quite lady-like things to have. So ladies, have fun being ladies today!
Today is also National Anthem Day! Francis Scott Key's song was officially made America's national anthem today. Show your patriotism by singing the national anthem at some point during your day. If you do it in a crowded place, see how many people join in!
That's it for today! Triple holiday, though! On the 3rd, no less! Pretty neat!

Hard to Balance
Today is Be Humble Day. It is a day to keep away from bragging about ourselves or trying to make ourselves sound better than we are. Being humble, as I have recently found, is not how I once thought of it. I once thought that to be humble, you almost have to deny your own talents. If someone asked if I was good at something, in a vain attempt to be humble, I would say "No" even if I was actually gifted in that area. That's not being humble. That's just lying. In fact sometimes, I would use that to get out of work, and if they saw me doing well at the task later, I would say "Well, I was just trying to be humble". No, being humble isn't about that at all. That's being humble for the sake of trying to get people to see how humble you are, which doesn't fit into the logic of what being humble is.
Being humble is knowing your talents, and neither overselling or underselling yourself on them. You shouldn't be out to make yourself look like you are better than what you might really be (you'll get caught pretty fast), and you shouldn't have the false humility of saying "Oh, no I'm no good at that" when you are actually quite decent. It's a very delicate balance, but one of the most rewarding virtues there is, in my opinion. It helps you become honest with both yourself and others, which can really take a lot of stress away from your day-to-day.
Obviously, no one can become perfectly humble in just one day. Today is just a reminder of something we should be working on daily. Pay extra attention to what you say when someone approaches you asking about what you can do or have done, and try to remain humble. It's hard to do, for me especially, because I love telling stories. Sometimes I like to... spice up my life stories to make them more entertaining for the listener. So that's something for me to work on. Try to see if you can find some way to become a little more humble, and work at it daily. And have a great day!
