Catching Up

I'm back at home and now that I've caught up on sleep I  can spend as much time and bandwidth as I want telling you about the holidays for the past three days!

August 14th was National Creamsicle Day! The closest I got to celebrating that day was eating ice cream, because finding a creamsicle while staying in a hotel is a lot harder than it sounds.

August 15th was National Relaxation Day! I celebrated this day every spare second I could. Which turned out to be a lot since I had an international flight with an 8-hour layover.

August 15th was also National Failures Day! I also celebrated this day in the form of failing to sleep very much at all. I can't express how happy I am that I failed, but the planes and pilots succeeded.

Finally, today is Bratwurst Festival! I have to say that I'm mildly disappointed in the fact that the day I come back is a food holiday since those are so simple to talk about and celebrate. I will say that a fairly recent story I have about hot dog related things is that even though I spent eight hours in Chicago yesterday, I didn't have a chicago style dog. Why? Because no hot dog is worth eight dollars. Maybe I'll try and get one when I'm not in an airport where the prices are set almost as high as the flight paths.

On Fire

Today is Fire Day! I found very little information about this specific day online, but I'm fairly sure I can figure it out. I would think that it is a day to celebrate the coolest (not literally) element (classical, not periodical) there is. Fire does many things... or rather it does few things, but those things have a large plethora of uses. Now before all you arsonists and pyromaniacs go crazier than normal, I'm going to have to ask that you keep your fiery celebrations under control. Don't light a forest or house or small mammal on fire. Keep it to things that are safe while still being able to be amazed by the fire as it crackles. Did you know that the amount of fire directly relates to how many people are involved? It's true. Here's some facts I made up, but should be taken without question:

Bonfire: Huge party on a hill with tons of people
Campfire: Pow-wow of small friends reminiscing
Fire in a grill: Family picnic
Fireplace: Two people having a serious conversation about life
One candle on a table: All that is needed to perfectly set the mood for a dinner that is otherwise lit by the burning love of two star-crossed lovers whose hearts shall surely be aflame for all eternity.

Whoa... Sorry. Didn't mean to get all poetic on you. It just happens sometimes.

Pull back corner of film to vent.

Today is National Frozen Food Day! It is indeed a grand day for bachelors everywhere, as this makes up quite a bit of our diet. Well, thats a bit of a half-true blanket statement. I can cook, but that talent seems to only be truly any good in the area of desserts. Although I can make a mean wrap. The point being, that frozen foods are easy, fast, and delicious if you know what kinds to get. Hot Pockets? Yummy. Do I regret eating them almost immediately after I do? You bet. Some frozen foods are delicious AND good for you, though. Healthy Choice would be the obvious example there.

Let us not forget however, that 'frozen food' does not always mean 'meal-in-a-box'. No, food is food; so logically frozen food is any edible good that is frozen to preserve its flavour. Fruit, meat, veggies, ice cream, sherbet, sometimes pop-tarts, and even those certain candies that are just better frozen (I'm looking at you, charleston chew). Yes, frozen food certainly does encompass a lot of foods we partake in.

We have two people to thank for this holiday. First and foremost is Clarence Birdseye, whose name probably foretold of his awesometude later in life. He invented the process of freezing foods. Clarence, this Hot Pocket Sloppy Joe Side Shot goes out to you, my fellow man. The next shout out is for the man who saw the greatness of frozen food, and wisely used his position of power to give it the honor it deserved: Ronald Reagan. Yes, indeed, we can rest assured that he was also a fan of the quick-meal. He made this national holiday on March 6, 1984 saying "Now, Therefore, I, Ronald Reagan, President of the United States of America, do hereby proclaim March 6, 1984, as Frozen Food Day, and I call upon the American people to observe such day with appropriate ceremonies and activities." Awesome. Just awesome.
