Today is National Cheer Up The Lonely Day! Being lonely sure can be a saddening experience, so it stands to reason that lonely people could use the occasional pick-me-up. As it so happens, there is one sure-fire cure for loneliness: company. Crazy right? Spending time with someone who is alone makes them not alone simply because of the fact that you are with them! While you can cheer them up through a letter, over the phone, or online, it just isn't the same at all. Spend some time with someone in your life that you think may need a little company. Don't limit it to just today, either. Everybody needs somebody to talk and hang out with, so why only be that person one day a year? Even self-proclaimed "lone wolfs" get lonely. In fact, they are sometimes among the loneliest. So do your best to spot those in need and give them some time out of your routine!

A Hug Fit For A King
Today is National Hug Holiday! I didn't really need to research today to know what to do. It's all about giving a little love out to people in the form of a hug. If you don't know what a hug is, that thought makes me sad to think about.
Today is also King Kamehameha Day! This holiday DID need a lot of research because I've only ever heard that word from people who watch Dragonball Z. Thank goodness that today has very little to do with that. King Kamehameha (who will be called "K" from here on out) was the first king of hawaii. Today is a holiday that they celebrate mainly in hawaii that involves parades, flowers, hula competitions, and quite possibly playing with lots of fire. I'm especially interested in that last part because fire is cool. You can celebrate today by wearing a hawaiian shirt at the very least, and at the very most you can fly to hawaii. Hurry! You still have time!

I Want to Eat a Cornfield.
Today is Eat What You Want Day! Being in college, I can't really say that this isn't what I already do every day. however, for those of you that are at an age where you usually aren't the decider of your meals, take advantage of today! Go to a place where you can be creative. Subway lets you make your own sandwhich, Whataburger lets you make your own burger, Chipotle allows creativity in your burrito, and there are countless ice cream and yogurt stores that let you decide everything to which/how many flavours and which/how many toppings you want. In fact, try to go to as many create-your-own-food places as you can today. I think I'm just going to have cereal, though, because that is quite frankly what I want right now.
Today is also Twilight Zone Day! Possibly one of the best t.v. shows of all time, Twilight Zone is still good and scary today because it uses things that are universal (most of the time). Before I get to into this, let me just say: We are talking about the old, good, classic Twilight Zone, alright? None of that new 2002 now-in-color stuff. The old Twilight Zone had such classics in it's repertoire, that almost every other show worth it's salt has taken aspects of it for parodies or references. I used to watch Twilight Zone with my mother whenever she would find a station playing it, and if there's one thing I learned from it all, it's that there is ALWAYS a Twilight Zone marathon on some channel somewhere. So, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go eat cereal while watching the "Time Enough at Last" episode.

It was incredibly hard to come up with a title for this. Why wasn't there a Twilight Zone about food?!?! Anyways I apologize for the lackluster title.

Studio 8
Today is Eight-Track Tape Day! 8-tracks weren't really around by the time I was born, as they were only popular in the 60's-70's. I do remember my father owning at least one of them, but I don't remember him ever having anything to play them on. It makes sense because 8-tracks were really popularized by their use in cars, and they were quickly replaced by cassette tapes. I DO remember listening to a lot of cassette tapes, and even buying a few of my own as a child. While cassettes did have a lot of problems, 8-tracks had more. So why do they get a holiday? Nostalgia. If you ever owned them, like I know my dad did, then remember the times that you did. If you still own a player, listen to them! Then tomorrow, go out and buy a newer radio. Or at least a walkman. Stop living in the past!

Apples, Tools, and Cake
Today is Johnny Appleseed Day! Even though he died today, he is celebrated in March because it is planting season. Obviously it would be a little hard to go out and celebrate by planting your own apple trees, selling them to people, preaching sermons, and donation the little money you make to poor all while slowly but surely becoming an American legend. So instead, just try to put a lot of apples into your diet today. Out of all the things that I've asked you to participate in eating all day, this is by far the healthiest! So take advantage of it! Besides, apples are the most versatile of fruits, in my humble opinion. Just think about how many things they have going for them. Really think about it.
Today is also Worship of Tools Day! Why the word 'worship' was chosen, I do not know. It's not a holiday for some weird obscure religion that literal worships garage-dwelling apparatus. No, it's just a day to give tools to people who appreciate them, or maybe just appreciate them yourselves. Most websites claim this to be a "man day" although they usually also said you shouldn't ignore the females who also work with tools. I'm frankly just thankful that the day is talking about the kind of 'tool' that it is.
Today is also my birthday. To celebrate, ask other people "Did you know it's Kyle's birthday today?" and when they ask "Who is Kyle?", then you just point them on over to this blog. That's all I want from you, internet. It's a little greedy, so if you don't like that idea, then get yourself something nice and tell me what you got yourself. If it helps, ask other people to chip in for a gift for me, and then use that money on something for yourself. After all, that's technically kinda what I just asked for as a gift. I accept no responsibility for loud arguments you may or may not have with your close ones after you have done that, though.

Don't Cry into a White T-shirt.
Today is yet another double holiday, but these holidays both have greater meaning behind them then what almost any person would think from just reading their names. The first holiday is White T-shirt Day. That seems simple enough to celebrate, and I could simply believe that it's just another odd holiday celebrating something for the sake of celebration. I would be wrong! It was actually started by Bert Christenson as White Shirt Day on February 11, 1948, in commemoration of the day the strike ended at General Motors in 1937. The auto workers' strike sat inside the building rather than picket outside, and supporters of their cause marched outside. To see the full story, Google it. ... just kidding here's a link to the wiki.
The second holiday with unseen meaning is Don't Cry Over Spilled Milk Day. I'm sure we've all spilled milk at least once. Whether it was a complete fumbling of the jug and the subsequent pouring on your floor, or trying to eat cold cereal on the couch and some milk makes it over the lip of the bowl onto your shirt. However, much like the phrase is not meant to be taken as literally as it sounds, the holiday stands for much more. "Don't Cry Over Spilled Milk" is an idiom that seems unused until someone actually spills milk, and then that one person who is 'that guy' that we all know says it. What it means, though, is that some things are of such small significance in the grand scheme of things, that they should not be allowed to affect you greatly should they not go exactly according to plan. See why someone found a way to shorten that? A milk spill is very easy to clean up. Towel + spill = done. Now, some people have different priorities, so what is milk to you may be silver to someone else. I suppose it also depends on the amount of milk. If milk floods your house, then you may be allowed to cry over it. You decide for yourself what is really worth spending your time crying over, though. Trust me, not crying over spilled milk is a great way to start cleaning up that spilled milk.
