Apple For Teacher

Today is Teacher's Day! For some reason, this holiday is at the beginning of summer. I find it odd because, as a former high school student, this was the time that teachers were least likely to be on my mind. Although holidays are intended to be happy occasions, and I assume teachers are just as happy for the year to be over as students are. In fact I know they are. My mother teaches elementary, and she was just as happy for the 'vacation' as my little brother was. I put 'vacation' in quotes because she also says there is no such thing as a true vacation for elementary teachers. However, today COULD be. I probably should have told her today was a holiday for teachers before she left to help set things up at the school... oh well.

Today is also National Applesauce Cake Day! This kind of cake sounds like it would either be delicious or horrible. I love applesauce, and I can tolerate cake, but when I think applesauce + cake, I picture cake topped by applesauce (ew) or cake filled with applesauce (even more ew). But if I can find a recipe and al the ingredients I need, I will hopefully be proven wrong.

Summer is Hot?

Today is The Festival of Popular Delusions Day! At least three people on the internet say that today was made by the Germany one day before one year after D-Day. It was meant to basically say "Yeah, world domination was a bit of a delusion wasn't it?" However, this day can be celebrated today by either being delusional, or realizing what the popular delusion is and going against it. A perfect example was brought to my attention this morning (how fortuitous!) when my dad and his friend were saying things to the effect of "Wow it is getting hot?" and "How is is getting so hot?". It then occurred to me that a VERY popular delusion for the people around my area of living (which if you've being keeping tabs, you might be triangulating my position according to things i've said about where i live in previous posts) is simply: Weather.

Now, my homeland area is not known for being the most consistent in short term bursts, but in the long run, it is oh so very predictable. Yet the people always seem surprised by summer heat of winter chill (or lack thereof). We go through it every year and yet for some reason we never see it coming. Well "NO MORE" says I. I will now and forever henceforth never be surprised by the change of seasons, as they are unchangeable and always in the same order. Why should we ever think otherwise?

Mrs. Havisham

Today is Old Maid's Day! I at first thought that today was about a card game that I had no idea how to play, but luckily for me, it wasn't. No, today is instead intended to raise awareness of the women of the world who have not found that special person yet and are ... er... gaining years? Being a guy, I have to admit I don't really know how to tell anyone how to go about acting upon this holiday. I tried researching it and the most likely story seems to be that it started around the time of WWII when a lot of young fair ladies who had lost their man in the war were encouraged to go to large social meet and greets with soldiers who had survived the war. So... I... I guess if you feel like you are an 'old maid' (not that I'm saying you look old at ALL... OR that all women do is clean like maids) then you should go out on the town and try to meet Mr. Right?

I'm going to stop typing. All this post can do is dig me a shallow grave.
