Molding Toys

Today is National Play-Doh Day! I'm sure all the people my age and above, and possibly some below have had Play-Doh at some point in their lives. It was and hopefully still is a major staple 'toy' in a normal childhood. I say 'toy', but Play-Doh is so much more than that. It's... anything. Literally. Well... not literally, but it's very versatile. You can make it into whatever shape you want, and then use a little something called imagination to make it real. Imagination doesn't come with Play-Doh, but Play-Doh can play a great part in activating it. As can any toy with such versatility. Plus, what a great business model. "Hey lets give kids some colored blobs to make into whatever toy they want". Play-Doh is making bank off of that business model. Not that I hold it against them. I mean, it's a great business model. And I love playdoh. I usually made picnic scenes.

Attention Span

Today is Skyscraper Day! Now, I've never been in anything that I would call a skyscraper that I can remember at the moment. However I can tell you that there was a map on Mario Kart 64 in versus mode called "Skyscraper" and it was just an incredible amount of fun. I really miss those days when me and my family would sit and play those family friendly games together. Such games included but were not limited to: Mario Kart 64, 007: GoldenEye, Star Fox 64, and a bunch of other games that I remember, but forgot the names of at the moment. ... Anyway... skyscraper day.

Workin' the Tweed

Today is Tweed Day! It's a day to wear tweed! Obviously some college professors from the 90's have an advantage on most of us because I don't know about you, but: I own absolutely no tweed. I didn't know that I didn't until I googled "tweed" and found out what it was, though. There was also a fairly (in)famous person named Boss Tweed born on this day. Judging by what wikipedia said he did, however, I don't know how or why I would want to celebrate him? I'm going to stick with celebrating the cloth. I'm sure there is some SOMEwhere in this house.

Today is also Don't Go To Work Unless It's Fun Day! This one literally spells itself out for you, so I'm going to go ahead and assume you know what to do. But WAIT! Today is sunday and a lot of workplaces are closed anyway! Well, this is awkward... How about we tweak the meaning just a little bit. In the name of holiday spirit. Let's just not do work unless it's fun today. Sound good to you? Yeah. It does to me, too.

So the story goes...

I've never actually known a town that had a legend of it's own aside from large scale things such as the Loch Ness and other stories like it. Thanks to Cordova Ice Worm Day, I now know that there is a small town in Alaska called Cordova which has a festival to celebrate their very own legendary... beast? I mean their worms, but legendary beast sounds better than legendary worms. In fact the latter sounds like something you would want to get an immunity shot for. They are the ONLY place that has a celebration dedicated to this rarely seen worm, and they celebrate it right. By that I mean: they celebrate it in ways that I've always pictured a small town with it's own legend should. Games. Not just any games, though! Games that you would only find in a small town, which makes them rare and fun and usually very family friendly. There is the usual parade and exhibits, sure, but something tells me the real hidden fun is in such gems of games as " oyster Shuck-n-Suck, longest beard, best legs, and tastiest smoked salmon, among others". they even have a Miss Ice Worm Pageant! How would you ladies like to hold that title?


Now, unfortunately, I can't travel to alaska and back in day. I may be able to convince my family to do a few friendly competitions, and perhaps make everything I do today a game in my head. That's the best that I can do as of yet, though. Although maybe I could find some way to call someone in Cordova and wish them a happy day.
