Today is Checkers Day and Dogs in Politics Day! I say them both at once because they are both the same holiday! More than a half-century ago today, Nixon gave a speech entailing his alleged use of campaign money for personal things. In this speech, he mentioned that his daughter's had recently been gifted a dog which they chose to name "Checkers". This was, according to history, the most important part of the speech because there is a holiday about it! So whether you want to go out and buy a dog, play checkers, or just research what presidents had dogs, it's all fair game. With the possible exception of playing checkers. That, in actuality, has very little to do with today. Still fun, though.
